The RockShox SID ‘Athena’ is a reference to the current and original host-city for the modern Olympiads, which were hosted in 1896. The Athena will feature a white pearlescent finish, known as ‘Athena white,’ along with a flag decal signifying their national origin. The Athena fork will also feature the Greek letters Sigma Iota, which will represent the SID acronym (Superlight Integrated Design).
“This fork represents an Olympic gold medal tradition,” added product manager Jeremiah Boobar. RockShox suspension has been ridden to gold medal in both the 1996 and 2000 Olympics.
The SID Athena will be available to consumers in limited quantities.
SRAM will also provide athletes headed to Athens gold-finished X.0 Twist Shifters, PG-990 cassettes and PC-990 HP chains. SRAM’s drivetrain product manager Ron Ritzler stated, “these shifters, chains and cassettes are reward for representing their countries, as well as our components, on the world’s greatest competitive stage. Plus, they look really cool.”
Olympic XC favorites riding SRAM and/or RockShox include, Bart Brentjens (NL), Gunn Rita-Dahle, Sabine Spitz ( G),Christophe Sauser, (SWI) Julien Absalon (FRA), Roel Paulisen (BEL), José Hermida (E) and Thomas Frischknecht (CH).
SRAM has no plans to make gold-finished drivetrain products available to consumers.

With the 2004 summer Olympics just weeks away, SRAM and RockShox are preparing their factory athletes for gold with limited Olympic Editions of their RockShox SID World Cup fork, SRAM PC-990 HollowPin chain, PG-990 cassette and X.0 Twist Shifters. The new componentry will be made available to any SRAM and RockShox sponsored Cross-Country racer heading to the 26th version of the modern summer Olympics.
