The old city of Jaffa residences that are used to a normal quite life have gone through a “rough” weekend. Once the ramps were set and hay was put along the track (in order to prevent straying from the track and injuries) 30 of the best Israeli mountain bike riders have hit the allies of Jaffa with one intention only: to finish the track as quickly as they can. The unique 550 meter long track was built downhill. The start point was at “Gan Hapisga”, the upper garden, and ended 40 meters bellow, at the old port of the city of Jaffa. In spite of the many obstacles, the steep stairs, sharp 90º turns, jumping over a gallery and lending close to the water of the port, Tom has managed to show an amazing technical ability that helped him achieve the excellent time record.
Moshe Sinai, The UCI (International Cycling Union) referee and a referee in the competition has said that Tom was the speediest rider in all of the competition “runs” and among the few riders that improved their time on the second run in a whole second. Though evacuated to the "Wollfson" hospital that morning, with a sever injury in his leg, Amir Capi, 27 year old from Cfar Saba, an excellent rider and a symbol of downhill in Israel came second place just tenths seconds behind Tom with the time of 1:04:30. Tom said his success was thanks to a good bond he had with the track, “I got on, I bonded well, I gave it all and it worked great”…
