Leysin (Sui) – After his victory two weeks ago in Durango, Mickael Pascal wins his second World Cup race this season. Annabella Stropparo got 3rd, her season best, after a 3rd place in the Time Trial on Saturday. Anneke Beerten impressed with her first ever World Cup podium, finishing 5th.
"I just wanted to get down the course with no crash," smiled Pascal after his run. "All the people had the same weather though, so I'm very happy with this win." With this second win, Pascal closes the gap to Vouilloz and Barel and the battle for the overall World Cup win is still undecided.
Anneke Beerten got her first ever World Cup podium by finishing 5th. “I’m very happy for myself and for the team. Be One has invested a lot in me and now it’s paying off well”. Oscar Saiz finished 13th and maintained his top 10 overall position. Bas de Bever is still recovering from his injury.
Annabella Stropparo impressed again in the women’s Cross Country race by finishing 3rd, after a 3rd place in Saturday’s Time Trial. “I was worried about my knee for this weekend, because I suffered with some pain, but it worked out pretty well. When I closed the gap to Leboucher and Fullana, Leboucher made her move which was too much for me at that time. From there on, I settled for 3rd place, my season best”. Corine Dorland didn’t feel strong and finished 19th.
For the men’s race, Be One Team lost Erwin Bakker in Friday’s practice. He crashed and was out for the weekend. Davy Coenen finished 18th after an impressive race and won 8 places the last round. Thijs Al was unlucky with a flat tire, losing his 20th position and falling back into 50th. He didn’t give up and rode a strong race from there on finishing 28th.
Next week Kaprun will host the 7th UCI World Cup.
