Already 2000 Registrations for the „Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike“
UCI – MTB Marathon World Cup with changes in the course

The OC chief Kurt Ploner rejoices: “I can’t believe it: in our computer 2,000 names have entered the race. That’s 1,000 more than at the end of April 2005!“. Ploner wishes to stop registrations at 3,300 participants. „The Marathon World Cup has its appeal“, thus he explains the huge interest in the „Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike“ this year.

For the marathon world cup a new course is planned. The start will no longer be clockwise, but in the opposite way. The first long climb will be the one to Prato Piazza (which used to be the last one). The start will be moved from the main square in Villabassa to the main road next to it, where the traffic has dramatically diminished since the new by-pass.

Thus there is also more room for the start blocks. “We plan to arrange about five start blocks“, Ploner says. „The first block will be reserved for the world cup athletes, men and women, the second block for those participants who scored results in the past years. The following blocks will host further participants according to their registration date.”

Alta Pusteria in South Tyrol organizes a UCI Marathon World Cup on 8th and 9th July 2006. The MTB classic „Dolomiti Superbike“ is a World Cup race for the first time in its 12-year history. Due to the main sponsor in future the event will be named „Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike“. Villabassa will host the third of four scheduled marathon races.

In view of the big event in July 2006 the course was measured anew with GPS satellite technique. The marathon course of the „Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike“ has now a length of exactly 119,9 KM and has a difference in height of 3.822 m! This is exactly 822 m more than in the past years. The medium course has a length of 56,8 KM with a difference in height of 1,688 Meter (+188 compared with 2005). The short course of 28 KM and 800 m of difference in height will no longer be run. Three prizes of the mountain and a „Marlene“-intermediate sprint in Dobbiaco are planned.

In July 2008 Dolomiti Superbike will organize the Marathon World Championships in Alta Pusteria. The organizers won the bid at the end of January in the Netherlands.
It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired- you quit when the gorilla is tired.
